Giba, Sardinia

Giba is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2097 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Carbonia -Iglesias in Sardinia. The municipality is situated approximately 13 kilometers south-east of Carbonia and about 27.5 km south-southeast of Iglesias. The district Villarios is located directly on the Mediterranean coast.

History

The Nuraghen left inter alia a Domus de Janas. In the Middle Ages the area was until the end of the first millennium under the rule of a Benedictine monastery until 1122 einnisteten pirates in the area. The former bishop's seat was briefly abandoned and finally relocated in 1603 to Iglesias.
