Göfis is a municipality in the district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg Austria with 3159 inhabitants (December 31, 2013).

Geography

Göfis is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Feldkirch to 558 meters. Göfis is the gateway to Walgau, which stretches to Bludenz. 49.2 % of the area (9 km ²) are forested. There are no other local villages in Göfis.

History

The name, in the name in the oldest written documents " Segavio " is, like the name of the local castle Sigberg derived from the Celtic " Sego " ( victory, strength, power ) and refers to a fortified settlement.
