The Golden Highway is a main road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales. It connects the New England Highway southeast of Singleton with the Mitchell Highway and the Newell Highway in Dubbo.

Course

Approx. 11 km southeast of Singleton branches off the Golden Highway to the west by the New England Highway (N15 ). He bypasses Singleton in the south and in this case runs at Mount Thorley about 2 km along the Putty Road ( S69 ). It follows the Hunter River upstream along the northern boundary of the Wollemi National Park to the northwest. In the Sandy Hollow Bylong Valley Way branches off to the west and 50 km to reach the road Merriwa, where it turns to the west and the Merriwa River crossing.

Subsequently, crosses the Golden Highway to Krui River and the Munmurra River and follows the Talbragar River downstream to Dunedoo. The last 10 km to go he runs together with the Castlereagh Highway ( S86). The Golden Highway continue to follow the river downstream to Talbragar to Dubbo, where he meets and ends on the Newell Highway ( N39 ) and the Mitchell Highway ( R32).

Importance

The Golden Highway provides a direct connection between the Hunter Valley and the port city of Newcastle in the east and the center of New South Wales. Unlike the more southerly crossing the Great Dividing Range, such as the Great Western Highway and Bells Line of Road to the Golden Highway has relatively low slope and reached no great heights. Therefore, it is also easy to drive with a caravan trailer combinations and motorhomes.
