Gösser

The Göss Brewery is a traditional large brewery in the Styrian town of Leoben. Its most famous product is the brand of beer Gosser. The brewery is part of Brau Union Austria AG.

History

In Pen Göss, which had been founded in 1020, has been brewed since the Middle Ages beer. But the beer soon lost over the wine in importance, and also in place Göss no brewery has established itself. The first written reference to the brewery Göss found 1459 on one established in the nunnery brewer named Lenhart Newmaister. The abbey was dissolved in 1782, and the site was subsequently used for various purposes.

1860 bought the 28 -year-old master brewer of Saybusch ( Żywiec ) Brewery, Max Kober, parts of the property and built against the will of the local council a new brewery. Kober made ​​the brewery to the largest of Upper Styria. 1892 was the emissions already 70,000 hectoliters. 1893 Kober transformed the brewery into a corporation in order, bought the brewery Sixtsche in Leoben and merged with the brewery Farrach. During and after the First World War, the Göss brewery involved in numerous other breweries. In 1921, the still interwoven with the consolidated brewery Falkenstein was acquired in Lienz. The emissions have been steadily increasing, and was at the beginning of the 1930s, over 400,000 hectoliters.

Already in 1933 the company received the National Award irrevocable and since then must the Federal coat of arms used in commercial transactions.

When beer output the million hectoliters mark was passed in 1973, six years after the founding of Steirerbrau ( with the Reininghausstraße AG).

1977 Gosser Brewery was admitted to the Association of Steirerbrau ( Puntigamer, Reining house). 1992 Steirerbrau was swallowed with the brewery Göss from archrival BBAG in a hostile takeover. Today, the brewery is part of Brau Union Austria AG, which since 2003 belongs in turn to Dutch brewer Heineken.

2007 the brewery was the general trend towards mixed beer beverages account and brought the Gosser Natur Radler on the market.

The beer Gosser special came to an honorable task in Austrian history. The beer was served at the signing of the State Treaty for the feast. As a reminder (2005) was served a special bottling for 50 - year government contract anniversary.

Since 2012, the Gosser World Championship gold was brewed especially for the ski Championships 2013 in Schladming, which should give it only for the time the World Cup.
