Greek euro coins

The Greek euro coins are put into circulation in Greece Euro Coins of the common European currency, the euro.

Circulation coins

Greek euro coins have a different design on each of the eight coins. All were designed by Georgios Stamatopoulos, the small coins represent ships, the middle known Greeks and the two large coins show examples of Greek history and mythology. All coins show the EU twelve stars and the year of issue. Uniquely, the currency name is specified on the Greek coins in Greek letters and cents instead of the term ΛΕΠΤΟ ( LEPTON ) or the plural ΛΕΠΤΑ ( Lepta ) will be used. Literally, thin money lepton.

Greece was taken very late in the monetary union. As Greece the prescribed minimum amount of coins could not dominate in this short time, some of the coins of other countries was coined ( " external characteristics" ). These coins have imprinted a country code letters in one of twelve stars: the 1 -, 2 -, 5 -, 10 - and 50 - cent coins the letter F (France) for France, the 20 cent coin E ( España) for Spain, the 1 - and 2- euro coins minting S ( Suomi) for Finland.

Accordance with the design guidelines

The Greek euro coins correspond, by the lack of indication of the issuing country, not completely the design guidelines of the European Commission in 2008. These recommendations for the design of the national sides of the coin are fixed. The coins are dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the National Bank Bank of Greece. Issued them were from 3 November 2003 initially only to employees of the bank. The Remainder of 8000 silver and 600 gold coins are sold to the public at a price of 90 euros or 2100 from the 21th June 2012.
