Green Island (Massachusetts)

Green Iceland (also North Brewster Iceland ) is an island in Boston Harbor. It is located 9.5 mi ( 15.3 km ) from Boston's city center on the territory of the State of Massachusetts in the United States. Green Iceland has a permanent area of approximately 2.5 acres ( 1 ha ), which temporarily by up to 14.7 acres (5.95 ha) is increased by one watt, depending on the tidal range. It is administered by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR ) and is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.

The island consists of a single rock, up to 45 ft ( 13.7 m) above the water.
Flora and Fauna
On the island many nesting birds such as American herring gull, gulls, cormorants, Barn Swallows and Rotschulterstärlinge. The low vegetation consists of Rhus and salt-tolerant herbs. The fauna of the island is also still the subject of scientific studies.
History
The island was named after the merchant Joseph Green, who owned the island in colonial times in the 1600s.
