The Great Mountain in the Lusatian mountains is a 438.1 m above sea level. NN high hill at Großhennersdorf in the district of Görlitz in Saxony.

Geographical location

The Great Mountain is located in the eastern part of the Lusatian mountain country in Upper Lusatia. Its summit rises about 1.6 km southeast of the village church of Großhennersdorf. West passes in a north-south direction the federal highway 178 ( Großhennersdorf - Oberseifersdorf ), north runs in a northwest-southeast direction, the county road 8631 ( Großhennersdorf - Dittelsdorf ). His North Spur is the top mountain ( 393.3 m). Is east-southeast of Schönbrunn mountain ( 428.1 m), northwest of the mountain calves ( 360.9 m ) and a little south-southeast of Schanzberg (approx. 409 m).

Geology

The Great Mountain, together with the mountain peaks a coherent basalt flows rest. On the south side there is an approximately 400 -square-meter area of basalt boulders, the Steinernes sea is called. It is thought that this is to weathering remnants of the Vistula glaciation in the Pleistocene. Furthermore, the back and the southern slope of the mountain by a powerful loess covered.

Flora

The crest of the Great Mountain is forested, as the predominant species are found mainly elm, beech, ash, maple, oak trees and winter Linden. The eastern and southern slopes were also reforested with spruce.

Ground flora and shrub layer dominated by grove bluegrass, blackthorn, hawthorn interventions leagues, lily of the valley and grove Cow-wheat. On the rocks of the mountain can find lichens also finger herbs and Sharp stonecrop.

Just south below the peak of the Great Mountain is a radio tower with a remote cable measuring point ( FKM).
