Großraming

Großraming is a municipality with 2675 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Upper Austria in the district of Steyr-Land. The church was originally part of the judicial district Weyer, since 1 January 2014, the community is part of the judicial district of Steyr.

Geography

Großraming located in Traun quarter and is traversed by the river Enns. The extension is from north to south 12 km, from west to east 20.3 km. 70.9 % of the area is forested, 23% used for agriculture.

Quarters are Brunnbach, Großraming, Hintstein, Lumplgraben, Neustiftgraben, Oberplaißa, Pechgraben, toboggan Bach.

Traffic

The Enns made ​​for centuries the most important transport connection Großramings. Geology

History

Originally in the eastern part of the duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality of Austria above the Enns attributed. The first settlement density was approximately 1200 to 1300, partly in wood and partly in caves directly on the Enns River. With increasing population got the place, probably in contrast to Kleinraming on Ramingbach in Steyr, the name Großraming. The local Ramingbach was originally Rubinicha, Slovenian for, Fischbach ' - today it is called by Maria Neustift Neustift Bach. The place is called as Röming, Remink, Raumnich. Abbot Berthold of Garsten left by his monks clearing the area of Großraming and build a farm on the left Ennsufer, which was named after the monastery Garstenau Garsten. Around 1200 AD, the first wooden church was already in Großraming. A place for a parsonage was purchased in 1390, in 1392 the place became a separate parish. 1513 the stone church was built in the Gothic style, in 1707 expanded to the east towards the baroque style. 1936 they built it to the west ( loft and organ). The St. James is the patron saint of the church. During the Napoleonic Wars Großraming was occupied several times. Since 1918 it belongs to the province of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the village belonged to the Upper Danube. A subcamp of the Mauthausen concentration camp was built. It was a labor camp and was used to build the Ennskraftwerkes Großraming. In addition, two bridges and the Aschasiedlung were built to resettle the inhabitants of the houses is accumulated. At the end of World War II met at the Enns the American forces and the Red Army. From May 10th bis June 27, 1945 Großraming was divided along the geographic border Enns. The northern Großraming ( Hintstein, Upper and Lower Town, Pechgraben, Neustiftgraben ) was occupied by the Soviets, the southern part ( Oberpleißa, Lumplgraben, Brunnbach, toboggan Bach) of the United States. Thereafter, until the signing of the Austrian State Treaty on May 15, 1955, was Großraming in the American occupation zone.

Großraming was the filming location for the television series The country doctor.
