Gschwandt

Gschwandt is a municipality with 2706 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) and is 4 km northeast of Gmunden Traun district court in the district of Gmunden.

Geography

Geographical Location

The town is located 523 meters above sea level in a hilly landscape overlooking the Traunstein and the Höllengebirge. The extension is 6 km from north to south, from west to east 6.1 km. The total area is 16.7 km ². 18.0 % of the area is forested, 70.7 % of the area is used for agriculture.

The name of the municipality Gschwandt dates from the High Middle Ages, from the word swenten from that make as much as wane - means - a kind of clearing to win settlement area.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In gold, a black, eight-spoked, outside bestecktes between the spokes with Spickeln, broken wheel, of the district in the top left a rim piece missing; covered by a green, sloping been hacked Links bar.

The coat of arms granted in 1985 consists of a broken, achtspeichigen wheel in front of golden background, which is externally fitted with iron spikes. The wheel is covered by a green, sloping beam is chopped in part. The Broken Richtrad with iron pins is the hallmark of Saint Catherine, the patron saint of church Gschwandt. The checked oblique bar refers to the origin of the place through clearing.
