Gosau

Gosau is a municipality with 1762 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Upper Austria in the district of Gmunden Traun in the district, and is the Gosau Valley, a side valley of the upper Trauntals at Lake Hallstatt. The region is located in the Inner Salzkammergut, on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt -Dachstein Salzkammergut. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Bad Ischl.

Location and landscape

Gosau is widely distributed on Gosaubach in the Salzkammergut, in a locked by the Gosauzwang tributary of Trauntals, with flows into the lake of Hallstatt. History

The valley of Gosau was settled in the 13th century by monks from the Abbey of St. Peter in Salzburg. The first documented mention of Gosau place in the year in 1231.
