Gustaf Dyrssen

Gustaf Wilhelm Peder Dyrssen (* November 24, 1891 in Stockholm; † 13 May 1981 in Kungsängen ) was a Swedish military and athlete who was able to celebrate successes in the modern pentathlon and fencing.

Dyrssen took for the first time in 1920 at the Olympics in part and took the gold medal in modern pentathlon. Four years later he won the silver medal in the same discipline, Gold went to his compatriot Bo Lindman. Dyrssen 1924 also took fencing in epee competition part, but was able to win with the team a medal. He also took part in the 1928 epee individual and with the team at the Olympic Games, but also failed to win a medal at these Games. Only at the 1936 Olympics, where he took part in individual and with the team back to the sword competitions, he won the team silver medal.

From 1936 to 1940 he was president of the Swedish Fencing Federation and from 1949 to 1960 President of the International Modern Pentathlon Association, the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne ( UIPM ), which he founded together with Sven Thofelt 1948.
