Lars Hall

Lars Göran Ivar Hall ( born April 30, 1927 in Karlskrona, † April 26, 1991 in Täby ) was a Swedish modern pentathlete. He won the gold medal in the individual competition at two Olympic Games.

Hall was a trained carpenter. After he started at the Swedish fleet with the sport, he continued his career after leaving. 1950 and 1951 won Hall in the World Individual Championship, the Swedish team it was 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1953 World Champion.

At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, he won the individual disciplines, horse riding and swimming, was seventh in fencing, running and eighth in the Fifteenth in the shooting. 1952, the rankings were added in these disciplines. With 32 points, Hall won gold before Hungary Gábor Benedek. In the team competition, the Hungarians won with 166 points, ahead of the Sweden with 182 points. Hall was the first Olympic champion in modern pentathlon, who won this title after the completion of his military service. Until then career officers had prevailed.

From 1954, no longer included the rankings, it was a score introduced. This year, the Swedish winning streak stopped at the World Championships, the Swedish team won only bronze, although Björn Thofelt was world champion in the individual competition. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 Larshall could repeat his success of 1952. He won with 4833 points ahead of Finland Olavi Mannonen with 4774.5 points. In the team standings, the Swedes could not place because Björn Thofelt crashed twice while riding and gave up.

Lars Hall was awarded for his second Olympic gold medal in 1956, Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal -, together with the skier Sixten Jernberg.
