Daniele Masala

Daniele Masala ( born February 12, 1955 in Rome ) is a former Italian Modern pentathlete, the 1984 Olympic champion in the individual and in the team competition.

Life

Masala occupied at the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 to fourth place in the individual standings and was with the Italian team in sixth. In 1979 he won the bronze medal in the individual competition at the World Championships in Budapest. 1980 were boycotted by some western countries the Olympic Games in Moscow. Italy took part in the Games, but NATO had decided that no members of NATO forces should begin in Moscow; thus Masala was not allowed to compete as a sports soldier. At the World Championships in 1981 in Zielona Góra, the Polish Olympic champion from 1976 Janusz Pyciak - Peciak won with 5662 points and 13 points ahead of masala in the individual, the Italian team won bronze behind the Poles and the Hungarians. In 1982, the World Championships in Rome. Masala won the title with 249 points ahead of the Olympic champion from 1980 Anatoly Starostin, the team was again third parties.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Masala benefited from the Olympic boycott of the Eastern Bloc countries. Together with Massullo and Gianluca Tiberti won Masala in the team standings behind the silver Hungary.

Daniele Masala won international medals in addition to its 24 Italian national champion, ten in singles.
