HÃ¥kan Lidman

Håkan Lidman (Erik Håkan Lidman; born January 31, 1915 in Gothenburg, † June 6, 2000 in Estepona, Spain) was a Swedish hurdler who specializes route was the 110-meter distance.

At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 Lidman finished in 14.5 seconds in fourth place in the 110- meter hurdles behind Forrest Towns (USA), Don Finlay (GBR ) and Fritz Pollard (USA).

Without the Americans at the start Finlay and Lidman were the favorites for the European Athletics Championships in Paris in 1938. Finlay won with a European record of 14.3 seconds before Lidman ( 14.5 ) and the Dutch Reindert Brasser ( 14.8 ). 1940, Lidman with 14.0 seconds a European record, which was not until 1956 that undercut. He was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - For this performance.

At the European Championships in 1946, the first after the Second World War, which took place in Oslo from 22 to 25 August 1946 the Swedish athletes were the most successful participants. Håkan Lidman won the hurdles in 14.6 seconds before the Belgian Pol Braekman in 14.9 seconds. At the 1948 Olympic Games in London Lidman reached 12 years after his first Olympic participation once the final and was in 14.6 seconds in sixth.

Fourteen times he was Swedish champion in the hurdles, 1934-1945, and 1947 and 1948., 1946, he did not start at the Swedish Championships because he protested against his association had blocked several athletes for violating the amateur rules before the European Championships.
