Haplogroup V (mtDNA)

Haplogroup V is a human genetics haplogroup of the mitochondria. Haplogroup V was born ( as haplogroup H ) from the haplogroup HV, probably around 12,000 years ago on the Iberian Peninsula. Today, with concentrations of over ten percent in the Matmata Berbers of Tunisia, among the Basques and the Saami (Sami ) Scandinavia represented, with lower concentrations even in the Netherlands and the isolated Pasiegos in Cantabria.

In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Eve Bryan Sykes is the original mother of this mtDNA haplogroup the name Velda.
