Haplogroup U (mtDNA)

Haplogroup U is a human genetics haplogroup of the mitochondria.

It represents a group of people who are descended from a woman in the Haplogroup R ( mtDNA) from a branch of the family tree genographischen. This woman lived about 55,000 years ago. Their descendants brought forth various subgroups, some of which are now living in very different geographical homelands. The old age has led to a wide distribution of these subgroups has taken place and, on places of refuge in Europe, North Africa, India, Arabia, Northern Caucasus and the Middle East.

In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Eve Bryan Sykes is the original mother of this mtDNA haplogroup the name Ursula.
