Harry Moger

George Henry " Harry " Moger (* September 1878 in Southampton, † June 20, 1927 in Manchester ) was an English footballer. The goalkeeper won with Manchester United in 1908 and 1911, the English championship and in 1909 the FA Cup.

Career

Moger played for amateur club Forest Swifts and worked as a mechanic before he was active from 1898 as a professional for the Freemantle FC in the Southern League. 1899 Freemantle was now resigned from the Southern League, he was banned for two months because he illegally played despite his professional status ' for Forest Swifts. In the summer of 1900 Moger joined Free Mantles local rivals Southampton FC, arrived there but during his three -year stay behind the England international goalkeeper Jack Robinson rarely used and had also not participate in the finals in the FA Cup in 1902.

In May 1903 Moger was piloted by Ernest Mangnall in the Football League Second Division at Manchester United, where he was initially behind John Sutcliffe substitute goalkeeper. His Football League debut Moger on October 10, 1903 in a 4-0 home win against Barnsley FC, was at the beginning but with his nervousness problems. End of March 1904, he took over permanently the goalkeeper position of Sutcliffe and Moger as goalkeeper managed Manchester United in 1906 after 12 years of abstinence as a table runner to return to the First Division. Decisive influence on the further development of sports United had the punishment of local rivals Manchester City in May 1906. The club was considered by the Football Association for illegal payments guilty. 17 current and former players of the club were blocked and banned from ever playing again for Manchester City until January 1, 1907. United adopted this fact to its advantage and secured with Billy Meredith, Herbert Burgess, Sandy Turnbull and Jimmy Bannister four players from City, who all belonged to the starting eleven, as United 1907/ 08 superior won the English championship for the first time.

In 1909 after winning the FA Cup, the second major title win Moger, in the final Bristol City was beaten in front of over 70,000 spectators at the Crystal Palace 1-0. At the end of the 1910/11 season, as once again succeeded in winning the English Championship, Moger lost his starting place to Hugh Edmonds and ended after he had played a large part of the season in 1911/12 for the reserve team in the Central League, in June 1912 his football career. Despite his successes, and 266 appearances for Manchester United's tall and lanky goalie League was not for the English national team selection yet for the Football for use. After his playing career Moger earned his living in Manchester as a commission.
