Harvey L. Wollman

Harvey L. Wollman ( born May 14, 1935 in Frankfort, Spink County, South Dakota ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He was from 1978 to 1979 the 26th Governor of the State of South Dakota; since, without exception, have exercised this item Republican.

Early years

Harvey Wollman attended the Doland High School, Bethel College in Minnesota, and until 1957 the Huron College. Between 1958 and 1960 he was a soldier in the U.S. Army. Between 1961 and 1965 he worked as a teacher at his old school, the Doland High School, worked and visited in passing nor the University of South Dakota. He then became a farmer.

Political career

Wollman sat between 1969 and 1974 in the Senate of South Dakota. There he was at times leader of the Democrats. In 1974 he was elected vice- governor of his state. With this election, the terms of office of the Governor or the Deputy Governor of two to four years had been extended.

After the sitting governor Richard F. Kneip on 24 July 1978 resigned his office to become U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, Wollman had to end its Unopened tenure. In the gubernatorial elections this year, he was, however, failed in the primaries, so that his term ended on January 1, 1979. As governor to Wollman had to deal with water problems. He increased the budget for education policy and pushed for the repeal of the property tax.

Personal

Harvey Wollman is married to Ann Geigel, with whom he has two sons. His older brother Roger was at the time of Harvey's office as Governor Chief Justice at the South Dakota Supreme Court and this took the oath of office; later he became a federal judge.
