Heidi Pechstein ( born July 4, 1944 in Leipzig) is a former German swimmer.

Career

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, she launched the all-German team and won the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay bronze medal. In 1962, she was then able to win at the European Championships in Leipzig the title in the 100 meters freestyle and the 4 x 100 -meter medley relay. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 she remained medaillenlos. She was from 1959 to 1961 and then again in 1967 with the season of the SC DHfK Leipzig GDR champion in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay. 1961 and 1964 she won the GDR Tiel over 100 -meter freestyle; in addition she also won titles over 200 meters (1961 and 1967 ), 400 meters (1967 ) and 800 -meter freestyle (1967).

In 1962, she was with the medley relay ( Ingrid Schmidt, Barbara Göbel, Ute Noack and Heidi Pechstein ) Athlete of the Year chosen in the elections in the GDR Team of the Year. In the same year she received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
