Hemis-Nationalpark

The Hemis National Park is located in Ladakh in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is named after the village of Hemis, where an ancient Buddhist monastery is located. It extends from 3300 meters to 6000 meters and covers an area of ​​4100 square kilometers, various mountain habitats. The park is an important habitat for the rare snow leopards, about 30 to 50 animals live on, according to estimates in the reserve. Other large predators are the wolf and the brown bear. In the 1980s, even a herd of Asiatic wild dogs was observed. Several mountainous grazing animals live in the park, including Blue sheep, Siberian ibex, argali and Ladakh Urials. The number of blue sheep is estimated at about 4,000 animals. The Capricorns are less often, while only about 300 live on the Ladakh - Urials in the park. Among the smaller species Long-tailed marmots and red foxes are mentioned.
