Hesper Valley Railway

The Hespertalbahn is a historic standard gauge railway with steam locomotive operating between the Old Station Kupferdreh and house Scheppen am Baldeneysee in Essen.

History

As a narrow-gauge railway with horses running they opened up mines from 1867, from 1877 the colliery Pörtingsiepen. The expansion of a portion of the track to standard gauge was 1918. The railway was closed in 1973. In June 1975, the club saved for the conservation of Hespertalbahn the route and operates since then as a museum railway. The maximum speed of the train is 15 km / h

The Hespertalbahn is part of the Route of Industrial Heritage and is part of the themed routes 12 ( history and present of the Ruhr) and 15 (lanes in the area ).

The upper part of the railway line from house to Scheppen Hesperbrück is developed as a hiking trail.

Fleet

The Hespertalbahn has an operable steam locomotive. It is a C -coupled tank locomotive (built in 1961 ) of type Knapsack. Two other steam engines of the Hespertalbahn are not operational.

In addition, there are three diesel locomotives owned by the Hespertalbahn. As motive power for the museum train serve a Henschel DH 360 Ca 1961 and a Henschel DH 240 by 1957. The other two locomotives used for shunting and transfer trips. As a track-laying vehicle for material and personnel transport is a Skl 53 Klv available.

Three -axle and four two-axle passenger cars and a two-axle luggage vans are available for the museum train available. In addition, include twelve other people and freight cars to the fleet.

Lokschuppen

In April 2012, construction began on a new engine shed at Baldeneysee. This is located in close proximity to the Old Railway Station. It is intended to provide space for two tracks where the trains of Hespertalbahn can be stored and restored. Parallel to the construction of the shed, a new platform was built. The construction work is scheduled to be completed in August 2012. Official statements according to which the cost is about 800,000 €.
