Hillman Curtis

David Hillman Curtis ( born February 24, 1961 in San Diego, † April 18, 2012 in New York City ) was an American web designer, author and film director. He is considered one of the pioneers of web design.

Life

Curtis studied in the 1980s at San Francisco State University creative writing and film, but the study dropped out in favor of his band, The Green Things, with whom he was in subsequent years on concert tours. After the dissolution of the band, the autodidact worked as a freelance designer. 1993 Curtis began working for the software company Macromedia, where he rose to art director. With the development of the Macromedia Flash platform he designed in 1996, the first based on this technology site.

In 1998 he founded in New York City, the company hillmancurtis that the web design of numerous companies and organizations, including Yahoo, Adobe Systems, and the Metropolitan Opera designed. Curtis has written several books on web design and motion design.

Later, Curtis turned to the film and gave 2007 Webdesign on. From this period come short films, commercials, short documentaries about artists (Artist Series) as well as the documentary film Ride, Rise, Roar. A second film, The Happy film was in the works, as Curtis died of colon cancer on April 18, 2012 at the age of 51 years.

Hillman Curtis was married and has one son and one daughter. He was a nephew of musician Chris Hillman.
