History (The Verve song)

History (English: here in the sense of the past) is a song by Northern English rock band The Verve and was released by the record company after their first separation in August 1995 as a single. The song was released as an EP, was pressed in two different versions and released on 18 September 1995 in the market. He is also one of the twelve songs from the 1995 album of the band A Northern Soul.

The song

Description

History The song is a soft Britpop anthem in the style of the great songwriter ballads, with which The Verve two years later successful technically managed the worldwide breakthrough of the last great heroes of Britpop phase of the 1990s were. It is marked by a heroic supporting string arrangement, the strong warm voice of Richard Ashcroft and a lyrical- romantic text. As spiritual fathers of the song, the four members of the band are.

With the inscription "All Farewells Should Be Sudden " (Eng.: all separations should suddenly happen ) on the cover of the EP History became the farewell single by The Verve. For the cover, the band was photographed in Times Square. The quote was referring to proper, on partnership relations, but became the harbinger of the band who split after the departure of the singer in August 1995 - unknowingly of what they were able to achieve two years later.

Text and Video

The text is based structure and content of the poem London by William Blake, an English poet of the 18th century, and processed presumably Richard Ashcroft's separation from his longtime girlfriend a year earlier.

The video clip for the song was produced by Richard Ashcroft. He hired the old videos of the band and collaged from the individual scenes a new clip.
