Hiwot Ayalew

Hiwot Ayalew (born 6 March 1990 in Sekela Woreda, Amhara ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner and obstacle.

In 2011 she was eleventh at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria and won at the Pan-African Games in Maputo silver over 3000 m steeplechase.

The following year, she qualified over 3000 m steeplechase for the Olympic Games in London, where she broke in on the fifth.

2013, it won at the Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz silver in both the single and in the team standings. Shortly thereafter, she was second in the Crescent City Classic. At the Track World Championships in Moscow, she was over 3000 m steeplechase fourth.

Hiwot Ayalew is 1.72 m and weighs 50 kg. She is coached by Yohannes Mohammed and Bezuneh Yaye and starts for the team, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. Since 2011 she is married to the marathoner Girma Tilahun. Her older sister Wude Ayalew is also successful as a long-distance runner.
