Hoss is the third album by the American punk rock band Lagwagon. It was released on 21 November 1995.

Cover

The cover shows Hoss, a character from the U.S. television series Bonanza, played by Dan Blocker, leaning against a tree. Above the band logo is shown. Lagwagon chose the picture because they noticed in the making of the album, that they are all fans of Bonanza were in their youth, and Hoss was her favorite character in the series. Since the band but no permission caught up to use the picture of Dan Blocker, they were threatened with a lawsuit. They eventually settled out of court that they were allowed to use the cover when they donated some of the proceeds of the album for a charitable purpose.

Album

Hoss is considered the album, became acquainted with the Lagwagon internationally. The musical style sounds similar to Trashed, however Lagwagon soft on her third album, a little of their fast and hectic and oriented more on the pop-punk style and from the entire album sounds more rock.

In contrast to the two predecessors Duh and Hoss Trashed was not produced in the West Beach Studios in Hollywood by Fat Mike. The album was produced by Ryan Greene at High Street Studio in San Francisco, who was also responsible for the following album Double Plaidinum and accompanied the stylistic development of the band in the sound.

Shortly after the recordings for Hoss drummer Derrick Plourde left the band remained with the members but friends.

Reception

Mike wrote DaRonco of Allmusic, Lagwagon Hoss wanted to be taken more seriously on without being plugged into the category of a Fat Wreck band. The band won the album of maturity significantly. He gave four out of five stars. On the punknews.org page, the album was called " one of the outstanding punk records of the last ten years." The rating was five stars out of five. In a review in the music magazine Visions Joachim Hiller ruled that Lagwagon clearly stand out from the crowd with Hoss on melodic punk bands and manages the album, "Tear lethargy [ to ] " him from his.
