Husum–Kiel railway

The railway line Husum - Kiel is a in the western and the eastern section of single-track, not consistently electrified railway in Schleswig -Holstein. It connects the city of Husum Rendsburg with the state capital Kiel and serves as the major east-west axis of the rail traffic between North and Baltic Sea.

Historically, was the combination of Husum Erfde and Rendsburg to Kiel. Today's route ( KBS 134) Husum - Kiel runs over Juebek -Schleswig - Rendsburg to Kiel, where the section Juebek - Rendsburg the two-track, electrified railway Neumünster -Flensburg is shared.

Route

The railway line begins in the third Husum station, which was completed in 1910 for the opening of the line after Erfde and Rendsburg. This station is an important junction on the North Sea coast of Schleswig -Holstein. In addition to the trains to Kiel, he is served by trains of Marschbahn and the railway line Husum - Bad St. Peter- Ording. The route leads to Kiel in flat Geest northeastward and reached the mill creek the place Ohrstedt. Until Juebek there is no traffic stops.

Several stations along the route were abandoned in the early 1980s or operated only freight traffic. In Juebek the route goes over the railway track Neumünster -Flensburg. About flat, mostly agricultural land, it goes to the Schleswig station and on through a hilly moraine landscape towards Rendsburg. The train does not stop in Büdelsdorf. There, led until 1974 the original, opened on September 1, 1910 route from Husum to Rendsburg on Erfde in the railway Neumünster -Flensburg. The Rendsburger station was not installed during the construction of the North Sea-Baltic Canal.

Then, running through the large Rendsburger loop around a portion of the city to cross over to the Rendsburg High Bridge the canal. History

Husum - Erfde - Rendsburg

Originally there was a direct, 50 km link of Husum by the Treeneniederung about Norderstapel and Erfde to Rendsburg and as here described to Kiel. The route Husum - Erfde - Rendsburg was opened on 1 September 1910. In Norderstapel cruised to 1934 the route Friedrichstadt Schleswig Schleswig the circular path.

In the late 1920s, there were continuous passenger trains of the relation Husum - Erfde - Rendsburg- Kiel. The trip took about three hours. A faster pair of trains with few Heading Hold needed only about two hours and 20 minutes. 1959 sailed railcars the route to Rendsburg in about 70 minutes. Local trains of the relation Husum - Kiel were still out on Erfde while Eilzüge already drove over Juebek. It perverse about eight pairs of trains a day.

A remaining, about 2.5 kilometer remaining piece connects the Rendsburg railway station with a northern industrial area and is also now unused.

From Husum from there until September 24, 1988 more freight to Erfde, until 27 May 1989 or after Schwabstedt until May 22, 1993 until after Mildstedt. As a station track to 2003, there was a modest freight to a timber in Mildstedt. There the route last came to a buffer. Service trips were made by the private railway NVAG from Niebüll. Following the insolvency of NVAG and closure of the woodwork no rail transport took place on this residual portion.

Husum - Juebek

This 26 km long route was created after the Prussian -Danish War of the operated since October 25, 1854 haul Flensburg- Tonning, which had been built, among others, for the transport of livestock to the UK and at the Husum already 32 years before connection to the march travel has been reached. After the annexation of the Duchy of Schleswig by Prussia in the north-eastern part of this route was diverted from Eggebek over Schleswig to Neumünster on a new route. Long before the closure of the route Husum - Erfde - Rendsburg express trains on Husum - Juebek were performed. Rendsburg- Kiel

This section was opened on October 15, 1904 by the Prussian state railways. The passenger was mostly operated by local train. Already in the late 1920s there were through trains to Husum, some of which had only a few intermediate stops. Youngest breakpoint between Rendsburg and Kiel was Mettenhof. The field station (formerly Brandsbek ) was taken with the operation recording the Nord-Ostsee- Bahn (NOB ) in 2000 as a breakpoint again.

Current operations and future

In passenger transport, the total distance Husum - Kiel in December 2011 by railcar of type LINT 41 of the DB is traversed every hour.

For the 102 km long distance they need to plan 81 and 83 minutes. Intermediate stops are Juebek, Schleswig, Owschlag, Rendsburg and field.

As of December 2014, in addition to the hourly public hourly free regional express a regional train, which will also hold in Kiel- Hassee Citti - Park, Kiel- Russee, Melsdorf, Achterwehr, Bredenbek (formerly Kronsburg ) and Schülldorf.
