I Wanna Be Down is the debut single of American R & B singer Brandy. The hip-hop soul song was written by songwriters Keith Crouch and Kipper Jones and produced. It was released as the lead single from the album on September 6, 1994.

Publication

1993 signed the then 14 -year-old Brandy her first recording contract and began working on her debut album Brandy in the same year. One of the first recorded song was "I Wanna Be Down ". Her label Atlantic Records decided that the title should be the first single of the album, what Brandy initially agreed skeptical. Ultimately, the success but spoke for themselves: The song immediately reached the number 1 in the U.S. Billboard Hot R & B / Hip- Hop tracks. I Wanna Be Down received for more than one million CDs sold in the United States a platinum record.

Music videos

For this song has two videos were produced: one for the Human Rhythm Hip Hop remix version with Queen Latifah, MC Lyte & Yo- Yo (directed by Hype Williams ) and one for the original version (directed by Keith Ward). In Williams' version also Brandy's brother Ray J makes a cameo appearance. Hype Williams ' version won an MTV Video Music Award in 1995.

Live

Brandy sang the song in the solo version on their first tour, the 1995 "The Brandy Tour" in the opening act of the band Boyz II Men, as well as part of a medley at the 2008 tarnished Just Human tour. Furthermore followed in 1996 by an appearance at the Soul Train Music Awards. Here they presented the remix version together Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Yo- Yo.
