Ichoca Municipality

The municipality Ichoca is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Ichoca is one of six Municipalities of the province Inquisivi and located in the western part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the province Loayza, to the south by the department of Oruro and the municipality Colquiri, on the east by the municipality of Inquisivi, and to the north by the municipality of Quime.

The municipality has 91 localities ( Localidades ), the administrative seat of the municipality and most populous town is Ichoca with 517 inhabitants ( 2001) in the central part of the county.

Geography

The municipality Ichoca is on an average height of 4000 m southeast of the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz, between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands to the east. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate in which the daily temperature fluctuations are stronger than the seasonal variation.

The mean average temperature of the region is 9.5 ° C lower due to the altitude by 1 ° C than the adjacent city Quime (see climate chart ), the average monthly temperatures range from 6 ° C in June / July and about 12 ° C in November / December. The annual rainfall is about 600 mm, May-August there is a dry season with monthly rainfall less than 15 mm, in the months of January and February fall in the long-term average 120-130 mm of rain.

The municipality had at the last census of 2001, a population density of 8.1 inhabitants / km ². The life expectancy of the newborn was in 2001 only 52.0 years, the infant mortality rate is 5.4 per cent ( 1992) rose to 10.6 percent in 2001.

The literacy rate for those over 15 years is 82.5 percent, and 93.1 percent, although in men and 71.2 percent for women ( 2001).

82.1 percent of the population speak Spanish, 92.4 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.3 percent. (2001)

89.8 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 82.5 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).
