Hajduk Split

Igor Štimac ( born September 6, 1967 in Metković, SFR Yugoslavia, now Croatia) is a Croatian football coach and former football player. 2012-2013 he was the coach of the Croatian national football team.

Career

As a player

During his active career Igor Štimac played for Hajduk Split, Dinamo Vinkovci (loan ), Cádiz CF, Derby County and West Ham United. For the Croatian national football team, with whom he finished in third place in France at the FIFA World Cup in 1998, he completed 53 games and scored two goals.

As coach

After the end of his career at Hajduk Split Štimac began as a coach and as an athletic director. In recent years he has worked as co- commentator for Croatian television. As advocates of a league with 16 clubs, he was instrumental in the increase in the first HNL to 16 clubs from the 2009/10 season. From September 2009 to May 2010 he was head coach at NK Zagreb.

On 1 July 2012, he joined the succession of Slaven Bilic as coach of the Croatian national team. Was dismissed after the national team lost in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 2014 the day before with 0-2 against Scotland Igor Štimac by the Croatian Football Federation ( HNS) on 16 October 2013. He was replaced by Niko Kovač.
