Institute (band)

Institute was an American alternative rock band in which the former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale is involved. The only album of the band ( Distort Yourself ) was published on 13 September 2005.

Band History

Institute was founded in 2004, after there had been internal problems in Gavin Rossdale's other band Bush. Rossdale teamed up with Chris Traynor, who on the last bus tour took over the guitar role after the departure of former guitarist Nigel Pulsford Bush. Traynor is also active as a guitarist in the American rock band Helmet. Institute was later completed with bassist Cache Tolman ( Rival Schools ) and drummer Josh Freese. Freese was only a short time working for institutions, because the band needed a drummer for the recording of their debut album, Distort Yourself. Charlie Walker later took the place of Freese.

After the band at Interscope Records (via Interscope were also published the first three Bush albums) was signed, Rossdale began with producer and Helmet frontman Page Hamilton working on Distort Yourself.

The album was released on 13 September 2005 and debuted on the U.S. Billboard charts at number 81, the first single from the band Bullet -Proof Skin, which was also part of the soundtrack to the Hollywood film Stealth, reached number 29 as highest placing on the Billboard charts.

To institute live repertoire includes numerous successful Bush songs, including Machine Head, The People That We Love, Glycerine and Swallowed.

In 2005 was the opening act for U2 Institute at numerous concerts on their Vertigo World Tour.

The band broke up in 2006 after only one album again.
