Jack O'Callahan

John J. "Jack" O'Callahan ( born July 24, 1957 in Charlestown, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who in his playing days from 1975 to 1989 among others for the Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils National Hockey League has played. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1980 he won the gold medal as a member of the U.S. national team.

Career

Jack O'Callahan began his career as a hockey player at Boston University, which he attended from 1975 to 1979 while he was playing in parallel for their hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In the years 1976 and 1977, the defender won with his team the championship of the ECAC Hockey each. He was elected in 1978 and 1979, the first All-Star team ECAC Hockey. He also won the Boston University 1978 NCAA Championship, where he was elected even in the first All-American team in the Eastern Conference of the NCAA and in the final tournament Most Valuable Player and to the All- Tournament team. During this time, the defender also ran a time as team captain of the Boston University Terriers on the ice. The 1979/80 season he spent with Team USA during its Olympic preparation.

During his time at Boston University O'Callahan was in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the sixth round as a total of 96 players from the Chicago Blackhawks, as well as in the WHA Amateur Draft, 1977 in the eighth round when a total of 68 players from the Calgary Cowboys been selected. Since the WHA had been resolved in the meantime, he joined the franchise of the Blackhawks for their farm team New Brunswick Hawks, he played in the American Hockey League from 1980 to 1982. In the season 1981/82 he won with his team the Calder Cup. In the season 1982/83 he was both for the new AHL farm team in Chicago, Springfield Indians, as well as the Blackhawks themselves in the National Hockey League active, he asserted itself over the course of the season in Chicago's team from the National Hockey League for which it aground to 1987. O'Callahan, had made its debut on October 10, 1982 in a game against the Winnipeg Jets for the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, was in the course of the following season after a stick blow to Dave Maloney of the New York Rangers for eight NHL games locked. In the 1984/85 season the defender was playing unfit due to a shoulder injury for several games. In the season 1985/86 the Americans formed a Verteidigerduo with Douglas Wilson. Most recently, he played from 1987 to 1989 for the NHL's New Jersey Devils, who had previously selected him in the NHL Waiver Draft, before he ended his career at the age of 30 years.

Internationally

For the U.S. O'Callahan participated in the World Championships in 1979 and 1989. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where he won the gold medal with his team.

After ending his professional career as a hockey player of Americans has been active in the financial services sector at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He was also a co-founder of Beanpot Financial Services, among others, together with former NHL player Jack Hughes.
