Jacques Lüthy

Jacques Lüthy ( born July 11, 1959 in Charmey ) is a retired Swiss ski racer. With eight podium finishes and an Olympic bronze medal he belonged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the world's most successful alpine skiers in the disciplines of giant slalom and slalom.

Career

On December 9, 1978 Lüthy first participated in a World Cup race, the giant slalom in Schladming, he finished it in tenth. Just over a month later, on 16 January 1979 followed by the first podium when he finished third in the giant slalom at Chuenisbärgli in Adelboden. With other good finishes, he managed to establish itself in the world rankings.

His most successful season was Lüthy 1979 /80. With a total of four podium finishes, he came in the giant slalom discipline rating third behind Ingemar Stenmark and Hans Enn; to a victory was never enough, however. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, he could by winning the slalom bronze medal celebrating the biggest success of his career ( this race was also seen as World Cup).

In the following years Lüthy binned several times in the points, but more podiums, he was able to pull only 1983. In the spring of 1985, he played his last World Cup race. In 1986, he took again to the Swiss championships, won the slalom and then stepped back for good. Today he operates in his birthplace Charmey in sports business.
