Jakubany

Jakubany (up to 1948 Slovak " Jakubiany "; German Jakobsau or Jakobau, Hungarian Szepesjakabfalva - older only Jakabfalva or Jakobjan, russinisch Якубяны ) a municipality in Stara Okres Ľubovňa the Prešov Region is in the north-eastern Slovakia, with a population of 2646 (31 December 2011 ).

Geography

The municipality is located on the northern slope of the mountains Levočské (Slovak Levočské Hills ) on the stream Jakubianka, which flows a few kilometers down in the Poprad. The easiest road access to the community is through the neighboring village Nová Ľubovňa and the city of Stara Ľubovňa, which is located seven kilometers to the north.

History

The town was founded in the 14th century on the site of a downed settlement. On the occasion of the owner of the castle Lublau, Philip Drugeth, founded in 1322, a magistrate named Stephan a village which was called Stephanisau and was settled by the Germans and Slovaks. Shortly after the founding of the town was renamed in Jakobsau. In the early 15th century, a separation into an upper and a lower part is known. 1412-1776 Jakobsau was leased to Poland. 1497 there was a second colonization with Wallachian and Rusyn population.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Zips in the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. A part of the township in 1953 the military district Javorina assigned, but which was abolished in early 2011 again and reintegrated into the community, together with the cadastral Hniezdno.
