Jan Jagla

Jan- Hendrik Jagla ( born June 25, 1981 in Berlin ) is a German national basketball player. He is currently under contract with Alba Berlin.

Jagla, the same size is 2.13 m like his famous compatriot Dirk Nowitzki is flexible and has good technique. His great strength are middle-distance throws. He plays at the small forward / power forward, sometimes at the center position.

Life and career

Club career

Jagla began at TuS Neukölln in 1865 where he played from the age of seven on, after his 18th birthday, he joined TuS Lichterfelde.

Jagla began his professional basketball career in the Bundesliga second division club TuS Lichterfelde Berlin. There he played from 1999 to 2001 and made last 15.7 points per game. At the same time he was also with Alba Berlin first experiences in the 1st Bundesliga. From 2001 he attended the Pennsylvania State University and played for the college team, the Penn State Nittany Lions in the NCAA. During his four years of study, he improved steadily. In his last season 2003/2004 he brought it to 13.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

In the summer of 2004, he returned to Europe for Greek first division Movers Panellionis Athens. National

His international debut was Jagla with a convincing performance mid-2003. Qualifying for the European Championship in 2005, he also played in the final squad for the actual tournament in Serbia and Montenegro, but he did not come.

At the Basketball World Championship 2006 in Japan, he finally made ​​it then in the Tournament Team. He could, however, engage in 9 matches of the national team only 36 minutes into the game, in which he scored 13 points. At the World Cup he played his 40th game for the German national team.

At the European Championships 2007 in Spain Jagla was back in the squad. During the tournament he scored 6.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game with a mission life of an average 14.2 minutes.

In August 2008 he took the German national team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, for Germany with a 96:82 victory in the 3rd place match qualified with third place in the qualification tournament over Puerto Rico in Athens. In the tournament he played an average 12.8 minutes per game, scoring an average of 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds.

A highlight in his national team career was the last preliminary round game against Latvia at the European Championships in Poland in 2009. Germany could lose this game at most residue with 8 points, but was just before the end back with 11 points. Jagla first hit a 3- point shot and turned the connection for a challenge or two free throws, so that Germany only lost by 6 points, reaching the second round.
