History

Jaworzno was first mentioned in 1229 in records. The village lay on the trade route Krakow Bytom. Jaworzno first belonged to the dukes of Opole, since 1274 the Duchy of Krakow. The parish was founded in 1335.

In the period from the 12th to the late 16th century, lead ore was promoted in the area. In 1788 Jaworzno and some villages of the area, formerly came in possession of the Krakow bishop, in the possession of the Polish state. After the Third Partition of Poland, and after the annexation of the Free City of Kraków Jaworzno belonged to the Empire of Austria.

With the disintegration of the Habsburg monarchy Jaworzno came to the Second Polish Republic. 1939 Jaworzno was conquered by the Wehrmacht and incorporated into the newly formed district Krenau. It was planned to rename the city in Arnshalde, but this was not carried out until the war ended.

From June 1943 to April 1945 was in Jaworzno the German concentration camp SS labor camp Neu-Dachs. The plant was then performed until 1956 as a central labor camp Jaworzno of the Polish Intelligence Ministry. Many of the victims of both regimes are still here today buried anonymously or buried in mass graves marked only partially.
