Jesus Varela

Jesus Y. Varela ( born December 18, 1927 in Bacolod, Philippines) is a retired bishop of Sorsogon.

Life

Jesus Y. Varela received on 17 March 1956, the ordination. Paul VI. appointed him on March 28, 1967 Auxiliary Bishop of Zamboanga and titular Bishop of Tatilti.

The Archbishop of Caceres, Alberto Valderrama Teopisto, donated to him on 30 April of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Mariano Gaviola y Garcés, Bishop of Cabanatuan, and Julio Xavier Labayen OCD, Prelate of Infanta.

On February 17, 1971, he was appointed Bishop of Ozamis. On November 27, 1980, he was appointed bishop of Sorsogon. On 16 April 2003 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.
