Jill Parker-Hammersley-Shirley

Jill Hammersley born Shirley ( born December 6, 1951 in Carshalton ) was the best British table tennis player in the 1970s. They won the European Championship in singles and in doubles. Three times they won the European ranking tournament TOP - 12th

National success

Hammersley began to play with 10 years of table tennis. A little later she won the English championship of the " girls under eleven years." After a few years she was British Junior Champion.

From 1973 to 1976 she won the national championship four times in a row English. In 1981, she won the title 7.

International success

From 1969 to 1981 Hammersley was present in all seven World Championships. Here they achieved their greatest success in 1973 when she reached the semifinals in doubles with the Hungarian Beatrix Kisházi.

Between 1970 and 1982 she was nominated for seven European Championships. Here she won three silver: 1972 in a double with Beatrix Kisházi as well as 1978 and 1982 in singles. Her biggest success came in 1976 in Prague, when she won the European Championships in singles and doubles (with Linda Howard). In the European ranking tournament Europe TOP 12 she won in 1978, 1980 and 1981 square one. In 1977 and 1982, she came in second.

In the ITTF World Ranking Hammersley was conducted from mid- 1976 to early 1977 to sixth place in the European ranking in January 1976, she took first place.

Others

1971, 1973 and 1975 Hammersley won the Commonwealth Championships in singles and with the team. 1973 and 1975 she also won in doubles. From the 1978/79 season played Hammersley with the TSV Kronshagen in the German women's Bundesliga. In 1983 she finished her international career.

Private

On July 3, 1971 she married Nick Hammersley. She later married Donald Parker again and then called Jill Parker. Her daughters named Kate and Joanna were also nominated for the English national team.
