Origin and Meaning of the Name

Joachim comes from the Hebrew name Jehoiakim ( " YHWH focused on " or " of YHWH raised up " ) or Jehoiachin ( " raised by YHWH ").

Jehoiakim (originally Eliakim 2.Kö 23.35 to 24.7; 2 Chronicles 36.5-8 ) was in the Old Testament a king of Judah. His son Jehoiachin was called.

The apocryphal Gospel of James, called the father of the Virgin Mary, so the grandfather of Jesus Christ, Joachim. He came from the house of David. In the tradition of the Orthodox and the Catholic Church he is venerated as a saint.
