Jochen Balke

Joachim " Jochen" Balke ( born September 12, 1917 in Dortmund, † January 19, 1944 missing from Novgorod ) was a German swimmer who in 1938 won the European title.

Balke won, floating for Westfalen Dortmund, at the German Championship 1936 title in the 200 - meter breaststroke swimming. At the Olympic Games in 1936 he reached the final at this track, finishing in sixth place.

Balke's most successful year was the year 1938. Than 100 meters breaststroke he presented on November 12 in 1:09,5 minutes a new world record. About this route however, there were no championships, over 200 meters, it was now starting for the Bremen SV, in 2:43,2 minutes German masters; at the European Swimming Championships 1938 in London he won in 2:45,8 minutes.

Balke swam 1940 and 1941, two German league title over 200 meters breaststroke, in 1940, he won another title on the short course.
