Jodie Christian

Jodie Christian Morris ( born February 2, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois; † 13 February 2012) was an American pianist of modern jazz.

Life

Jodie Christian was a veteran of the Chicago jazz scene. He played with Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Benny Carter, Don Byas, Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson and was on recordings by Chet Baker, Von Freeman 1992, Stan Getz in 1957, Gene Ammons, 1970, James Moody, Sonny Stitt, Ira Sullivan in 1958 involved as well as Eddie Harris, where he worked on the album Listen Here (1967). Christian belonged in the 1960s to the founding members of the Musicians Cooperative AACM and was in the 1990s worked as house pianist for the Delmark label with recordings of Chicago musicians such as Eric Alexander, Lin Halliday, Carl Leukaufe and Mike Smith, but also worked with recordings of Roscoe Mitchell with and only began at this time under his own name five albums on Delmark Records record. In 2000 he recorded the last album Reminiscing, accompanied by bassist Dennis Carroll and drummer Tony Walton, on which he processed standard material such as André Previn It's Good to Have You Near and How Sensitive. Most recently, he played in the AACM Fire Trio with Reggie Nicholson and Art Brown.
