Joey Sellers

Joey Sellers ( born 1962 in Phoenix (Arizona ) ) is an American trombonist, composer and arranger of modern jazz.

Joey Sellers grew up in Arizona and graduated from Arizona State University. Some years he worked as a freelance musician in New York City and Los Angeles, he also took an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University. Sellers is since 2005 Director of Jazz Studies at Saddleback College in California, where he teaches improvisation, ensemble playing, composition and jazz history.

Sellers recorded several albums for the label Ninewinds by Vinny Golia; In 2006, the album was released jazz aggregation. He also worked as a composer in jazz and contemporary music for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Doc Severinsen, and for the Symphony in Tulsa, Long Beach and San Antonio and work for the Formation St. Louis Brass. Sellers worked with numerous jazz musicians, such as Dave Liebman, Joe LaBarbera, Bruce Fowler, Tony Malaby, Lew Tabackin, Conrad Herwig, Bobby Shew, Michael Formanek, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Kenny Wheelers Large Ensemble.

Sellers was for his compositions with the Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, the Sammy Nestico Award and the Julius Hemphill Composition Award.
