Conrad Herwig

Conrad Herwig ( born November 1, 1959 in Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma) is an American jazz trombonist.

Herwig studied at the University of North Texas in Denton, at Goddard College in Plainfield and at Queens College. He started his professional career in the early 1980s in the big band by Clark Terry and stepped on, among others, Buddy Rich, Mario Bauza, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Mel Lewis.

As a sideman he worked in the 1990s with Joe Henderson ( ' Porgy and Bess ), Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano, and Eddie Palmieri took with La Perfecta II, Paquito D' Rivera Havana - New York Connection, the Mingus Big Band and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band (with Jon Faddis ).

Two of his albums as a bandleader ( The Latin Side of John Coltrane in 1998, and Another Kind of Blue - The Latin Side of Miles Davis, 2005) were nominated for a Grammy.

Herwig is Professor of Jazz Trombone, improvisation, instrumentation and arrangement at Rutgers University and a board member of the International Trombone Association.
