Johann von Herbeck

Johann Ritter von Herbeck ( born December 25, 1831 in Vienna, † October 28, 1877 ) was an Austrian conductor and composer.

Life

After beginning his studies, first from 1847 philosophy, then in 1850 at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna, Herbeck was in 1852 and 1853 first artistic director of the performances at the Josefstadt Church Music Association and founded in 1858 on behalf of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna, the Vienna Singing Club. In 1863 he became a member of the court orchestra and was from 1866 Kapellmeister. In the years 1869-1875 the musician was conductor of the Vienna Court Opera, respectively from 1870 to 1875 its director. Herbeck discovered " The Unfinished" by Franz Schubert, and brought her on 17 December 1865 large ball room of the Vienna Hofburg. He was an important figure in the Viennese musical history, who used numerous contacts with other musicians. He was, for example, a conveyor Anton Bruckner. Johann Ritter von Herbeck is in a grave of honor in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 32 A, number 32) buried. According to him the Herbeckstraße 1894 was named in the 18th district of Vienna. In memory of his honorary member of the men's glee club Klagenfurt erected the monument " Herbeck silence" in 1878 in the town of Pörtschach in the park of the peninsula.
