Johannes Wilhelmus Maria Liesen

January Liesen, full name John Wilhelmus Maria Liesen, ( born September 17, 1960 in Oosterhout, North Brabant ) is a Dutch theologian and Roman Catholic Bishop of Breda.

Life

January Liesen, son of a farmer family, studied from 1978 to 1983 at the Seminar in Kerkrade and received the 1984 ordination. He studied from 1985 to 1990 at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem, and received his doctorate in Biblical Studies in 1998. With his dissertation on Ben Sira, he presented a detailed analysis of the passage Sir 39, 12-35 and focuses on the "Invitation to the praise of God ."

Since 1990 he teaches Biblical exegesis of the New Testament, Biblical Theology, and Hebrew Bible ( Biblia Hebraica ) the " Groot- Seminarie " in the Rolduc. Since 1996 he is also librarian of the local academic library. He has also taught Hebrew Bible and exegesis in seminaries of the dioceses of Haarlem (2000-2003) and 's- Hertogenbosch (2001-2006). Since 2004 he is member of the International Theological Commission, a commission of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome.

Pope Benedict XVI. 2010 appointed him titular bishop of Tunnuna and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of 's- Hertogenbosch. The Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch, Antoon Hurkmans, donated to him on 18 September 2010, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Franciscus Wiertz, Bishop of Roermond, and Joseph Frans Lescrauwaet MSC, auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Haarlem.

On 26 November 2011, January Liesen of Pope Benedict XVI. appointed 11 bishop of Breda, a diocese that is substantially in the provinces of Zeeland and North Brabant.
