John Davies (swimmer)

John G. Davies ( born May 17, 1929 in Willoughby, New South Wales ) is a former Australian swimmer.

Grew up near Sydney in 1947 he was able to celebrate his first success when he was Australian champion in the 200 yard breast. He could repeat this success the following year and has been on the team for the Olympic Games 1948 in London. There he was in the final, although he was 0.2 seconds faster than the later bronze medalist Robert Sohl loud timekeeping, awarded only the fourth place due to a Jury decisions because of the alleged attack later. At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, he was then allowed to over 200 m breaststroke secure the Olympic title.

After his career as an athlete, Davies became a successful lawyer. He settled in the United States and also acquired U.S. citizenship. From 1986 to 1998 he served as a judge at the Federal District Court for the Middle District of California.

In 1984 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
