John Joseph Sullivan (clergyman)

John Joseph Sullivan ( born July 5, 1920 in Horton, Kansas, USA, † February 11, 2001 in Kansas City, Missouri) was Bishop of Kansas City -Saint Joseph.

Life

John Joseph Sullivan attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison. Sullivan studied Catholic theology and philosophy at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis. He received on 23 September 1944, the Auxiliary Bishop of Little Rock, Albert Lewis Fletcher, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Sullivan was curate at Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa. Then he was chaplain for the University of Tulsa. In 1947, John Joseph Sullivan pastor of the parish of St. Mary in Guthrie. He was pastor of the parish of St. James in 1959 in Oklahoma City. 1968 Sullivan was Episcopal Vicar for the Eastern Oklahoma.

On July 25, 1972 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Bishop of Grand Iceland. The Bishop of Oklahoma City - Tulsa, John Raphael Quinn, gave him on 19 September of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Mobile, John Lawrence May, and the Bishop of Pueblo, Charles Albert Buswell. The inauguration took place on 21 September 1972. On June 27, 1977, he was named Paul VI. Bishop of Kansas City -Saint Joseph. On 17 August of the same year the inauguration took place.

Pope John Paul II took on 22 June 1993 at the John Joseph Sullivan put forward reasons of age resignation.
