John O'Hare

John O'Hare ( * September 24, 1946 in Dumbarton, Scotland ) is a former Scottish footballer, who was known especially as a player in the English first division club Derby County and Nottingham Forest. With Derby, he won the British Championship in 1972 and repeated it in 1978 with Nottingham. It was followed by two more titles in the European Cup of Champions 1978/79 and 1980.

Playing career

John O'Hare began his playing career in 1963 at Sunderland AFC. In his first season he managed to 1963/64, with his team's promotion to the first division. There Sunderland established itself through 15th place in the first year, before the club in 1966 in the league only extremely scarce defended with 19th place. After another year in the lower third of the table John O'Hare joined the club for the first time and played for Derby County in the future.

Derby County

Derby was only second-rate at this time, but had to Brian Clough and Peter Taylor a very ambitious team of trainers. O'Hare managed with his new team in 1968/69 jump to the top flight of English football. In the following years he distinguished himself as a regular in his new club and celebrated 1971/72 its greatest success in the Football League First Division by winning the English Championship. In 1974 he followed his coach Brian Clough, who had left in the dispute with the Board of Derby County after the 1972/73 season. Clough took over for the season 1974/75 top English club Leeds United and pledged his immediate former player John McGovern and John O'Hare. The new season quickly evolved into a nightmare, because Brian Clough fell out within a few weeks with board, crew, and fans of the new club and has already been released shortly after the beginning of the season. Nottingham Forest

Scottish national football team

John O'Hare denied on April 18, 1970, his first cap for the Scottish national team in an international match in Northern Ireland. He crowned his debut with his first international goal. In subsequent years, followed by twelve more matches, in which he scored four goals. He played in this time together with players such as Billy Bremner, Archie Gemmill, Denis Law, Peter Lorimer and Kenny Dalglish.
