Jonzier-Épagny

Jonzier - Épagny is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Jonzier - Épagny is located on 621 m above sea level. M., about 21 km north- northwest of the city of Annecy (air line). The double municipality extends on an inclined towards the south slope in the headwaters of Fornant, at the foot of the Montagne de Sion and east of the Montagne de Vuache, in Genevois.

The area of ​​7.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of the Fornant (right side of the creek Usses ) and from its source Bach Flon. To the north, the municipality's area extends to the broad ridge of the Montagne de Sion. Here is 733 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Jonzier - Épagny.

Neighboring communities of Jonzier - Épagny are Dingy- en- Vuache, Chênex and verse in the north, Minzier the east and south, and Savigny in the West.

History

Jonzier is first mentioned in the 15th century. The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman family names Iucundius and means estate of Iucundius. In 1866, merged with the neighboring Jonzier Épagny to today's double municipality.

Population

With 718 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Jonzier - Épagny is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 20th century, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1901 were still 435 residents counted in Jonzier - Épagny ). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Jonzier - Épagny is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the area as well as in space Annecy and Geneva - Annemasse.
