Bossey

Bossey is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Bossey is at 460 m above sea level. M., about six kilometers south of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located at the northern foot of the Salève, at the edge of the Genevois, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​3.88 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The northern boundary runs along the edge of the plain, which extends south of Geneva and the Arve. History

The territory of Bossey was settled very early, with the earliest finds dating from the Magdalenian ( in the cavern de l'Ours ). For the first time the village is 1178 mentioned under the name Bossye. The name goes back to the Old French word boschel ( small forest ).

Since the Middle Ages Bossey belonged to Saint-Pierre cathedral chapter of Geneva. During the Reformation, the goods of the chapter came to the city of Geneva, which is why the village henceforth formed an enclave in the Savoy region.
