Jörg Schlaich

Jörg Schlaich ( born October 17, 1934 in Stetten, nuclei in the Rems Valley ) is a German civil engineer.

Life

Jörg Schlaich is Emeritus Professor at the University of Stuttgart and co-owner of the engineering firm Schlaich Berger and Partner (SBP ). Jörg Schlaich is the son of Ludwig Schlaich. His son Mike Schlaich is Professor of Concrete Structures at the Technical University Berlin.

Jörg Schlaich is a world renowned expert on unconventional engineering structures. He is known among other things, filigree pedestrian bridges, tall steel towers and elaborate rope net constructions, with which he entered architectural uncharted territory.

Mainly influenced he sees from Professor Fritz Leonhardt, the builder of the Stuttgart TV Tower, the first television tower at all, the world's many more followed.

In 1980, Schlaich Rudolf Bergermann the engineering firm Schlaich Berger and Partners, based in Stuttgart, Berlin and New York. He is still directors of the company.

Works

In collaboration with Günter Behnisch and Frei Otto, he designed the roof of the Olympic Park in Munich, in 1969 he built the Vidyasagar Setu (or Second Hooghly Bridge ) in Kolkata, India ( 1992 released after a construction period of 23 years for the transport) and in 1973 together with Walter Neuhäusser the Alsterschwimmhalle in Hamburg. He was a member of the group "think " that the contract for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center just missed with their design for Ground Zero.

1983-1984 was designed by the architect Gottfried Böhm with Jörg Schlaich the Züblin house in Stuttgart- Möhringen, the award-winning corporate headquarters of Ed. Züblin AG. Also, the membrane roof of the Gottlieb -Daimler -Stadion is a design Jörg ego repression of 1992.

He designed numerous bridges:

  • Stuttgart Pedestrian bridges to the International Horticultural Exposition 1993, the bridges at North Station and the Lion Gate, 1988 Suspension bridge at Max Eyth lake over the Neckar ( " Golden Gatele " )
  • Road bridges: 2003 - Auerbachstraße on the Heilbronner Straße and 1999, the eastern bypass Stuttgart -Vaihingen.

One of his most talked about proposals relates to the solar chimney power plant; nevertheless, it was not yet beyond a pilot plant. In Australia, such a wind power plant is now to be built by the company EnviroMission Limited.

In 2000 in Stuttgart filigree rope net construction of a 43 m high observation tower, the tower Killesberg, completed in Killesberg park.

Along with Rudolf Berger Schlaich man has passed his art archives of the Berlin Academy of Arts.
